Synopsis:
A rare opportunity to encounter over 50 works spanning two centuries of Singapore art — where seminal masterpieces meet bold contemporary voices.
This October, Artspace@Helutrans presents Continuity, Fluidity, and Unity, an exhibition that unites the discerning collection of Koh Seow Chuan with the immersive canvases of I.C. Koh.
At the core of the exhibition are works from Koh Seow Chuan's collection—architect, cultural patron, and one of Singapore's most respected collectors. The selection on exhibit encompasses the Nanyang Modernism of Cheong Soo Pieng, the "encounterist" liveliness of Chen Cheng Mei, the vibrant abstraction of Wong Keen, the conceptual reflections of Tang Dawu, and the playful reimaginings of Wong Shih Yaw. Together, these works share an inspiring perspective of Singapore's evolving cultural and artistic landscape.
Extending the conversation into the present, I.C. Koh's three-dimensional art pieces draw on Taoist and Zen thought together with notions of chance and indeterminacy, meditating on flow, impermanence, and the creative force of uncertainty.
Continuity and Fluidity, and Unity is both a celebration of legacy and an exploration of new frontiers — where past and present converge, and where art continues to open new ways of seeing and connecting.
