Synopsis:

Changi Chapel and Museum (CCM) and Reflections at Bukit Chandu (RBC) are proud to present Liberation of Singapore, a programme that invites the public to engage with Singapore's wartime history through talks and guided experiences. Anchored in the themes of identity, resistance, and reconciliation, the programme highlights how the stories of the past continue to shape Singapore's shared memory today.

The series opens with Whispers of War (WOW): Singapore Syonan-to (13 September), the first in a new public talk series that explores the lesser-known facets of wartime Singapore. Moderated by Dr Joshua Hong Yi Tan (NUS) and featuring guest speaker Mr Ling Xi Min (Northwestern University), the session explores the ideological and social changes during the Japanese occupation, and the ways different communities navigated life under Syonan-to.

On 14 September, visitors can join Journey to the East: Heritage Trail at Changi Chapel and Museum and Changi Point, led by heritage activist Mr Sarafian Salleh. The immersive trail uncovers stories of resilience and shared memory from prisoners-of-war, civilians, and kampong residents. Through these experiences, Liberation of Singapore seeks to create meaningful spaces for reflection and dialogue, encouraging audiences to rediscover and connect with Singapore's wartime legacy.
