Synopsis:
YST Head of Piano Prof Albert Tiu takes the stage in a celebration of all things solo – beginning with J.S. Bach's Italian Concerto, which originally uses the two manuals of the harpsichord to imitate the various instrumental sections in an orchestra; followed by the fervent energy of Schumann's 'Concerto Without Orchestra'; and closing with the sweeping Romanticism of Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto, in an arrangement for solo piano by Prof Tiu himself, an apt reference to the 1975 pop ballad 'All By Myself', which was inspired by the second movement of this work.
