Short Course Description:

Try your hand at singing for the stage with Leslie Tay, accomplished musical theatre actor, opera tenor and vocal coach. Over the course of four weeks, delve into two classic, contrasting songs from the world of Musical Theatre: one American standard from the golden age and one contemporary piece. Amplify! serves as- the ideal starting point for participants aged 16 and above.

Through in depth analysis and understanding of context and character, discover how you can utilise text and vocal texture to create your own unique and personal interpretations of any song. The course will also offer suggestions for suitable physical characterisations in performance, culiminating in a final song presentation in the last session.

Course Structure:
Week 1: Finding your Musical Theatre Voice: Contemporary Song
Using a song composed by theatre giant, Stephen Sondheim, discover how you can make text truly come alive through varying the colours and textures of your voice.

Week 2: Finding your Musical Theatre Voice: Golden Age Song
Next, return to the Golden Age of Musicals with a song by the Gershwin Brothers and explore a more classic style of song delivery.

Week 3: Embodying the Character
Elevate your performances through developing a deeper understanding of character physicality and motivation. Don't just sing your song, learn how to embody it too!

Week 4: Showcase
Showcase your unique and personal interpretation of your chosen song and receive feedback in a safe and nurturing environment
