Embark on Your Travel (Writing)
Organised by: Singapore Book CouncilPerformed by: Shivaji Das
Synopsis:
Traveling feels different today with beaches installing 'Instagram points,' 'YouTube moments' and Mandarin speaking humanoids while Airbnb-type services have brought about a commercialization of traditional hospitality. Correspondingly, travel writing - one of the oldest genres of literature - has evolved from Richard Haklyut's 16th century compendium of items for a whaling expedition to 280 character tweets by @twobadtourists. When Google Search can reveal thousands of images and videos of every place or festival, what can a travel writer write about and how can digital media be used for this?
