Synopsis:

In the lead up to Fringe 2020: My Country and My People, we invite you to spend an intimate afternoon with us, exploring the poetry of literary giant, Lee Tzu Pheng.

Lee herself will provide a brief introduction and read her iconic poem 'My Country and My People' to kick off the lecture by literary critic, poet and graphic artist Dr Gwee Li Sui, who previously shared his thoughts as part of Sing Lit 101: How To Read A Singapore Poem in 2013. In this revisit, Gwee will delve into the poem and open it up anew, inviting us to consider its relevance today, more than five decades after it was written. Guests will be invited to voice their personal thoughts and questions too, so come ready to share with others!

Artistic Director of the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival Sean Tobin will give some insights to the 2020 Festival programme, highlighting the different ways that our line-up responds to Lee's rich poem.
