Synopsis:

Christ's College was first established as God's House in 1437 by William Byngham, a London parish priest.

Shortly after receiving its Royal Licence from Henry VI in 1446, God's House was forced to move to make way for what is today's King's College. Following the death of her third husband, and the accession of her son as King Henry VII, Lady Margaret Beaufort decided to enlarge God's House and in 1505, with a royal charter from the King, the College was re-founded as Christ's College.

Over the next five centuries, Christ's was noted for many eminent academics and scholars, including John Milton, who would become one of the greats of 'English' literature and Charles Darwin, who came up in 1828 and sought to harmonise traditional Christian faith with the new truths of natural science.

About the Choir

Christ's College has one of the finest mixed-voice choirs in Cambridge and comprises of 2 organ scholars and many choral exhibitioners. During Term, the Choir sings Evensongs and undertakes a variety of engagements from weddings to broadcasts, culminating in an international tour each summer.

This year, the Choir will be touring New Zealand following a week in Singapore.

The Choir's repertoire embraces sacred and secular music from the 15th century to the present, enjoying a broad concert repertoire and selection of service music. The choir has an active social scene, often dining together at "formal hall" and running weekly 'Choir Tea', as well as playing in an intercollege choir football league. Choir members forge friendships which last a lifetime.
