Synopsis:

Great art inspires future generations. Pavlo Beznosiuk returns as guest leader after his triumphant debut last year, to explore the ways in which composers down the ages have relied on their forebears' creations for inspiration.

Vivaldi's Sinfonia to his serenade 'La Senna Festeggiante' serves as an example of the 'symphony' in its original role, while Haydn's 'London' Symphony and Prokofiev's 'Classical' Symphony explore a creative connection between two composers separated by more than 100 years.

The evening is crowned by a performance of Tchaikovsky's 'Rococo' variations, which owe a huge debt to the music of Haydn and his contemporaries, with cello virtuoso Qin Li-Wei as soloist with re:Sound.
