Powerful, unrelenting, and astute, Displaced Persons' Welcome Dinner has been the result of almost two years of dynamic and synergistic partnership between playwright, director, cast, and creatives. Join playwright Huzir Sulaiman and composer-musical directors .gif (Chew Wei Shan and Nurudin Sadali) at Displaced Persons' Welcome Dinner: Process Insight Talk for exclusive insights into our recent SIFA 2019 commission.

Huzir and .gif will provide an inside look at the physical, emotional, and aural worlds of Displaced Persons' Welcome Dinner and how they built upon each other. Discover the many moving pieces that came together to bring this incredibly layered multidisciplinary work to life.

About the artists

Huzir Sulaiman
Huzir Sulaiman is the co-founder and Joint Artistic Director of Checkpoint Theatre. A critically-acclaimed, award-winning playwright, he writes and directs for stage and screen, and teaches playwriting at the National University of Singapore. His Collected Plays 1998–2012 was published in 2013. His work has been translated into German, Japanese, Polish, Indonesian and Mandarin.

Known for their dark beats and haunting vocals, electronic duo .gif comprises Chew Wei Shan and Nurudin Sadali. From debut EP saudade (2013) to full-length album soma (2015), their lush, gritty landscapes have earned critical praise from publications such as VICE (US) and FasterLouder (AU). Past shows include Laneway Festival, Neon Lights, Inside Out London, BIGSOUND Brisbane, as well as tours in the UK, East Asia and the Phillippines.
