Synopsis:

Kala Sangam, a collaboration between the Indian Heritage Centre and the High Commission of India in Singapore, promotes the root culture of Singapore's Indian community by showcasing various Indian crafting traditions.

Sikki is a beautiful golden coloured grass found in the wet and marshy areas around rivers and ponds in parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in North India. Weavers use an ancient coiling technique to fashion different designs and patterns with dyed and un-dyed grass to create craft items such as trays, boxes and jewellery. Observe a live demonstration by a traditional craftsman at Indian Heritage Centre's Level 1.
