Synopsis:

Platform Series: Journeys is a double-bill featuring two solo shows by upcoming and promising artistes, Erwin Shah and Kimberly Chan.

Kulit On The Go
Written and performed by Erwin Ismail Shah
Directed by Richard Tan

"...a study in authenticity as he showed how one made do with less, happily." - The Straits Times

From farm to fashion, Kulit On The Go reveals the heart and art in leather crafting. In a materialistic world preoccupied with consumerism, an artisan stays afloat in business by traveling to his customers to produce custom-made orders. Despite his attempts to redefine luxury goods through this vanishing trade, society had other plans for him.

Kulit On The Go is a collaborative work first created by Erwin Shah Ismail and director Richard Tan as a 20-minute monologue commissioned by Teater Ekamatra's Projek Suitcase in 2016. Following its premiere, this work has toured at Sa//Rong Fair and Fete 2016 by Forest Child, the LASALLE Solo Festival 2017 and at Gateway's Opening Festival 2017. This success has spurred the team to further develop the piece for GenerAsia's Platform Series: Journeys.

In Her Shoes
Written and performed by Kimberly Chan
Directed by Samantha Scott-Blackhall
Musical arrangements by Aloysius Foong

In Her Shoes, written and performed by triple-threat show monkey extraordinaire, Kimberly Chan, is a sole-baring journey that touches those soft-spot conundrums of a being a woman. Together with award-winning Singaporean director Samantha Scott-Blackhall, Chan sets out to explore the trauma and jubilations of love, as she walks those beaten paths embodied by several pairs of shoes.

A developing piece of work looking to tour future international festivals, this piece also sees Chan collaborating with accomplished contemporary pianist and classical music maestro, Aloysius Foong to present masterful rearrangements of familiar songs and tunes from Stevie Wonder, Lake Street Dive to the musical classics of Kander & Ebb.

Through story, song and dance, and aided by her womanly instincts, this monologue is as an honest reminder to those around her (as well as herself) to embrace the different angles of love - the great, the down right awful, and the forgotten in-betweens.
