Quintet-ssential British
Organised by: Esplanade - Theatres on the BayPerformed by: Take 5
Synopsis:
Travel back to the beginning of the 20th century as Take 5 presents Singapore premieres of piano quintets by two important British composers, written before the First World War.
Grand and expansive in scale, the piano quintets of both Frank Bridge from 1912 and Arnold Bax from 1915 represent British nationalism and pride at the turn of the century, before the world was plunged into the chasm of a global war.
Take 5 is a chamber music series initiated in 2007 by five prominent Singapore musicians to showcase masterpieces from the quintet chamber repertoire. Since its debut, the ensemble has featured and premiered piano quintets by Widor, Messiaen, Saint-Saens, Sibelius, Sinding, Bloch, Amy Beach, Bartok, Respighi, Francaix, Chausson, Brahms, Granados, Turina, Ginastera, Korngold, Fauré, Schumann, Dohnanyi, Dvořak, Kelly Tang, Franck, Elgar, Shostakovich and Joyce Koh to critical acclaim. They continue to explore works by well-known composers that are seldom performed in chamber concerts in Singapore.
