Synopsis:

The Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre (SCDT) is pleased to announce that it will be holding its fifth series of EMERGENCE on 20th and 21st January 2018, 8pm and 3pm respectively, at the Singappore Hokkien Huay Kuan Black Box Theatre. We would like to extend a warm invitation to all individuals with a passion for dance and dance choreography to join us on this platform.

EMERGENCE is a new works showcase platform establised by SCDT for aspiring choreographers to develop their artistic potential, and have an opportunity to present their works to and be recognised by an audience group. A theme is given in each series, and choreographers can explore and experiment with elements of Chinese dance in their works. In this series, the given theme is "Passage of Time", as we sought to provide choreographers with greater freedom in their expression and presentation.

Please note that SCDT will provide technical assistance during the production of the work. However, there are no rehearsal or production costs covered. A reimbursement of maximum $100.00 will be give to cover expenese for each selected piece. Shortlisted choreographers must present their work for both performances.

How to Apply
We warmly welcome your entry submission(s) for EMERGENCE 2018. To apply, you may write in to emergence@scdt.com.sg by 30 September 2017, providiing the following information:

- Biography of yourself, with a formal headshot
- A description of your proposed work, including the dance title, synopsis, duration, and specify any speacial request you may have (subject to approval and availability)
- A video link of your work (YouTube or Vimeo), if applicable

A shortlisted entry submissions will be notified via email by 15th October 2017.

Further Information
New work must comply with the criteria stated below:

- Presented work must be new (has not been showcased before)
- Presented work must be of a Chinese dance genre
- Duration of presented work should be of approximately 5~7 minutes
- Presented work must be feasible for a blackbox theatre setting

Late applications will not be accepted. All applications will be acknowledged via email. Invitations to participate in this showcase will be issued as soon as possible following the closing date.
