Synopsis:
Delve into a world of shadows and experience the traditional Indonesian art of storytelling through shadow puppetry!
What is the project about?
This is an inter-disciplinary community arts project that will take you through each and every stage of putting together a Wayang Kulit performance showcase to be performed in front of a live audience.
Dates: 15 and 21 January, 4, 11, 18, 19, 25 and 26 February 2017
Venue: Woodlands Regional Library, Amazon Room/Programme Zone
Time: 2.00pm – 5.00pm (for all 8 sessions)
Project outline:
• Session 1: Introduction to Wayang Kulit Kelantan
• Session 2: Significance of Wayang Kulit Characters
• Session 3: Storyboarding
• Session 4: Wayang Kulit Puppet Making
• Session 5: Storytelling in Wayang Kulit
• Session 6: Introduction to Wayang Kulit Music
• Session 7: Rehearsals
• Session 8: Performance Showcase
Participants will work as a group to deliver the final performance showcase, guided and assisted by the instructors from local Wayang Kulit group, Ethnic Shadows.
Who we are looking for:
Anyone aged 18 and above, who is passionate about the arts and interested in understanding and getting involved in the production process of a Wayang Kulit performance. No prior experience is required.
