Synopsis:

Love and loss. Growth and grief.

These are some of the themes touched on by USP Productions' upcoming plays. Running from 20th to 22nd January, USP Productions promises two engaging plays for an entertaining evening. The first play, Stalemate, is a story of two 18-year-olds – Benjamin and Lee – who lead ordinary albeit closeted lives in Junior College. The next play, EverLife, examines love and loss from the perspective of two people: Richard and Xin Yi, as they process grief in a world where tactility in augmented realities are the norm. The play explores how technology can be used to warp the definitions of love, Ioss, and grief.

Stalemate tries to explore and present growth, self-discovery and adolescent determination under the prejudice and pressures of mainstream Singaporean society. We follow two 18-year-olds, Benjamin and Lee in their struggles to live with each other's quirks and flaws while navigating the complexities of high school social situations.

Benjamin is poised for Ivy League and groomed for perfection while Lee is perfectly contented with status quo and basic economic security. Confronted with deal-breakingly different priorities in life, they are driven to breaking point when their A level results force them to confront this harsh difference in their abilities and future. Faced with these irreconcilable differences and the pain of giving up their dreams, Benjamin and Lee are not far from stepping onto permanently separate paths.

The next play, EverLife, is named after a company that manages a webpage for the public to upload videos of themselves for posterity. Videos can be viewed through a headgear that creates an augmented reality with tactility: viewers will be able to see and touch the person in the video as if the person was in their actual living space.

Richard and Xin Yi are colleagues in EverLife, struggling to stay above the treachery of office politics. Outside work, they try to deal with the loss of loved ones in their lives, at times relying on augmented reality to do so.
