Synopsis:

A Musical Fantasy seeks to re‐invent the concept of the Western Classical Piano Recital by juxtaposing the works of Mozart and Schumann with popular music of today. In the selection of repertoire, the performer has chosen classical pieces that share common links with pop music, such as the theme of love and heartbreak that permeate both genres.

The audience will also be given the opportunity to request pieces that they would like to hear at the concert. In the run‐up to the concert, the performer would record songs that currently are on the Billboard/Spotify Top 50, sharing it on Instagram/Facebook/Youtube and audience are invited to vote for the music they would like to hear.

The multi‐racial culture of Singapore would also be explored through a specially commissioned work by Singaporean composer Syafiqah Adha Sallehin. Continuing in the theme of love, the work entitled Mahligai (Palace) is an expression of love and the dream of everlasting union. It is inspired by the scenes of a traditional Malay wedding, incorporating the rhythms of a kompang performance. The music also explores the tonality and motifs of Malay folk melodies and the use of embellishments called "grenek" that is distinctive of Malay music.'

In all, the recital seeks to increase the relevancy of Western Classical Music to Singaporean Youths through pop music and music with uniquely Singaporean themes.

Song Ziliang – Pianist
Described in The Straits Times as 'grandly good' following his Singaporean debut, Ziliang graduated from the Royal College of Music, London with a Masters of Music in Performance (Distinction) under the tutelage of Gordon Fergus‐Thompson. He has also studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Mikhail Petukhov. His studies in Russia and UK were sponsored by the Trailblazer Foundation.

Ziliang has won prizes and diplomas at national and international and has also been featured on Channel Newsasia, Channel U, Symphony 92.4FM, 93.8FM Live and Capital 95.8FM and major local newspapers and magazines. He has also performed at major concert venues in Singapore and internationally.

To bring classical music to the masses, Ziliang often gives charity performances where proceeds were donated to causes such as community shelters and education. Most recently, he performed at the community concert of the Singapore International Festival of Music as a soloist in the Grieg Piano Concerto. He has also appeared as soloist in the Bach Concerti in a fusion experiment with Ding Yi Music Company.

Since his return to Singapore in 2012, Ziliang was Principal Study Lecturer (Piano) at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Conversant in Russian, Ziliang has also worked as an interpreter for the Esplanade, Singapore Embassy in Russia, the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Ballet companies in Russia. Ziliang is currently a music teacher at Zhonghua Secondary School and continues to bring music and arts to the next generation of Singaporeans.

为古典与流行之间搭起一座桥梁，重新定义传统演奏形式展现其魅力，将西洋古典乐与东方中乐精髓带进更多年轻人的世界。本地海归演奏家宋子良钢琴演奏会－「梦幻音乐之旅」，尝试让巴赫与舒曼的钢琴作品和当今流行音乐做结合，以「爱」为名贯穿两者，望能借此改观普罗大众对古典钢琴演奏会的刻板印象，并将经典名曲介绍给更广泛的听众，尤其本地青年。音乐会上也将会弹奏华族乐曲，包括「平湖秋月」与「彩云追月」等。

除了加入流行歌曲与动画音乐等元素，本次演奏会也将突破传统，特别保留一部分节目开放让观众来点「歌」，观众可事先通过社交媒体与演奏家分享希望能听到现场被演奏的曲目。演奏会之前，子良也将陆续在网上分享一些大家耳熟能详的流行歌曲之钢琴版，供观众参考想要在现场听到哪些曲子。

同样是以「爱」为主题的本地新作「城堡」(Mahligai) 也将在音乐会上首演。这首来自本地作曲家纱菲齐亚的委约新作，以马来传统婚礼情景为创作题材，借以对爱的诠释与渴望，将音乐会主题由爱延伸至对新加坡多元文化的关怀。作品将注入马来手鼓多层次的节奏以及马来传统民乐的调性色彩，丰富体现马来音乐中独有的韵味。

宋子良－钢琴演奏家
海归本地青年钢琴演奏家，2010年于本地首次公演时获及《海峡时报》好评。2012年在导师戈登·弗格斯·汤普森的指导下，于伦敦皇家音乐学院以优等成绩完成音乐音乐表演专业硕士学位，亦曾于莫斯科柴可夫斯基音乐学院师从米哈伊尔·佩图霍夫。其两国深造经费全获拓新基金会赞助。

多年来在国内外钢琴比赛中获奖无数，子良亦接受过本地各大报章新闻媒体与杂志的访。曾演奏过的场地包括伦敦维多利亚与阿尔伯特博物馆、俄罗斯莫斯科音乐学院，以及本地的滨海艺术中心、新加坡国家博物馆、旧国会大厦艺术之家和南洋美术学院等。

传统西洋钢琴独奏以外，子良亦曾与多个艺术团体合作，包括与本地华族乐团鼎艺团一起携手演奏巴赫的协奏曲。2013年，子良更与旧国会大厦艺术之家联合呈献了富本地文化色彩的音乐飨宴 “叻沙乐声” (Project Laksa) － 一场融合了本地美食风味与西方音乐的委任的创作项目。

期许能改观大众对西洋古典乐的印象并重新定义传统演奏形式，子良亦经常走入校园、医院与各邻里进行演出，将古典音乐精髓带入社区。子良亦参与过各类慈善义演，其所得款项用于教育、慈善等社会各方用途。2012年学成归国后，子良以仅28岁的年纪，在南洋艺术学院任钢琴专业课讲师。现为中华中学全职教师，望能将音乐与艺术传承给下一代。

通晓中英俄文，子良亦曾为滨海艺术中心与俄罗斯驻新大使馆等担任英俄翻译。子良4岁起便追随周美伶女士学习钢琴，后师从杨美珠女士和林振中先生，开启其音乐生涯。
