Synopsis:

Between Systems: In Practice features the works by artists Kumari Nahappan, Valerie Ng, and Jeannie Ho. The exhibition is a culmination of explorations during The Migration Arts Residency. Drawing from their diverse practices of sculpture, painting, installation and photography, this exhibition is a survey of their personal artistic encounters with working and thinking with the digital. Rather than attributing to technologies as constantly emerging, this exhibition opens up a discourse on encountering the digital as embedded in the present, as well as investigating its role within the system and practice of art making.

Extending into the virtual, the exhibition continues online into a virtual environment providing a different perspective on the works created by the artists during the residency. Alongside the exhibition, a workshop, From Sketch to Screen will be conducted on 20 January 2024 led by the artists-in-residence with support from the creative team at SERIAL CO_ to facilitate a hands-on session on learning the processes of digital techniques. To further delve into the exploration and the inquiry into the practice of art making with the digital, a panel session, Input/Output with all three artists-in-residence moderated by visual artist, Jonathan Liu, will take place on 26 January 2024.
