Synopsis:
The Philharmonic Orchestra presents Unbridled Passions - selections from the oeuvre of French Romantic icon Hector Berlioz: Les nuits d'été (Summer Nights) and Symphonie fantastique.
Featuring acclaimed soprano Teng Xiang Ting, Les nuits d'été is a unique series of six songs with orchestra, an intimate, inspired introspection on love and loss, setting poems of Théophile Gautier to Berlioz's music. It is a hidden gem, celebrating love, life, loss, and liberation.
In stark contrast, the semi-autobiographical Symphonie fantastique embodies the fiery young Frenchman's infatuation with English Shakespearean actress Harriet Smithson, hurling the audience headlong into a wild journey of opium dreams, open pastures, and the diabolical underworld.
