Synopsis:
House is Open is the first digital game about Singapore musical theatre available to play for free, proudly created by Fill the Vamp, a new local musical theatre collective. Through the "hidden objects" game format, players go on a backstage journey to find quirky prop items from iconic Singapore musicals across three levels. Each discovery will reveal exciting trivia, insider interviews with show creatives, and videos of Fill the Vamp singing specially rearranged musical covers.
House is Open was conceived as a digital game to encourage new generations to engage with Singapore's rich musical theatre history through a sense of play. The title of the game pays tribute to the backstage term "House is open", which signals the moment audience members are allowed into the theatre before the show starts.
The game also features exclusive content, such as special collaborations with acclaimed industry figures to present updated musical covers by Fill the Vamp. Musical director and composer Elaine Chan rearranged songs from the Dim Sum Dollies repertoire to create a fun medley based on Singapore Icons in our culture and everyday life, while music producer and composer Bang Wenfu rearranged "请你告诉他" from December Rains (雨季) to bring Fill the Vamp's lush, melodic vocals to the fore. Another track to look forward to is the group's contemporary take on "Hero for a Day" from the stage pantomime Monkey Goes West, freshly rearranged by musical director Joel Nah.
With the game as a platform, Fill the Vamp aims to raise awareness and appreciation for the musical theatre genre in Singapore. Speaking on behalf of the collective, co-founder Natalie Yeap says, "House is Open is our homage to Singapore's musical theatre heritage. People often see musicals as expensive or intimidating, so we designed the game as an accessible way for them to connect with elements from three iconic local musicals. It's a neat mix of education and entertainment, which hopefully makes people want to learn more about musical theatre in Singapore."
House is Open runs till 31 August 2021. The game can be accessed for free via this link www.fillthevamp.com/houseisopen. House is Open is made possible by the support of the National Arts Council, Gateway Theatre and independent creative agency, Rawspark.
