The Visit (originally titled Der Besuch der alten Dame) is a 1956 classic by Swiss dramatist, Friedrich Dürrenmatt. It is now adapted for Asian audiences.

Claire returns to her impoverished hometown, offering an extraordinary monetary gift. The gift, however, will only be given in return for the death of her former lover. At first, the mayor turned down her offer but as time goes by, townspeople bought things on credit. The drama of the play unfolds as a kind of “proof” of Claire’s assertion: that everything, including justice, can be bought.
