Synopsis:

You might have seen their works, now get to know the people behind them. #ArtistAnonymous is our series of PRESSPLAY panel talks where we invite local artisans to talk about their profession, and share their collaborative works done with fellow creatives.

Collaborations doesn't have to be confined within the creative scene. In this multi-disciplinary project, designers Wendy Chua, Xin Xiaochang and Yuki Mitsuyasu worked with hardware shop Hup Yick Engineering Works to create a series of wearable accessories from household hardware. This paved the way for the book "The Machinist and the Social Value of Craft", which documented their research that stemmed from stories of the last auto-part machinist in Jalan Besar, Mr. Yee Chin Hoon. By addressing common perceptions, the designers hope to bring light to the true value of craft.

This talk will also feature contributors to the book, including book designer Pharaon Siraj and photographer Rebecca Toh.

Wendy (product designer), Yuki (jewelry designer) and Xiaochang (artist-designer) met in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts as fellow lecturers.

This programme is part of the National Library Board's PRESSPLAY, an annual youth festival aimed to celebrate the impact of arts in young people's lives. Now in its fourth year running, PRESSPLAY collaborates with local studios, independent artisans and design collectives to offer a myriad of arts programmes from 14 Jan - 18 Mar 2017.
