Azpirasi & Dian Dancers in collaboration with Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay as part of Pentas present: Deruma
Deruma follows the local folktale of Si Tanggang, a man who returns to his village after gaining wealth and success, but is ashamed of his humble past. When he refuses to acknowledge his mother, the poor and desolate woman asks God for a sign to prove that he is her son. At the end of his visit, he turns into stone.
A story about filial piety and gratitude told through Malay dance and traditional poetic forms, Deruma is helmed by artistic director & choreographer Azmi Juhari, and co-choreographer Abdul Yazid Juhuri, with music director Azrin Abdullah and playwrights Zulfadhli Rashid, Siti Aisyah Kamin and Nur Afiqah Moktar. None Md Zain stars as the Deruma (mother) alongside Norisham Osman as Tanggang (son), with dancers from Azpirasi and Dian Dancers.
